Eight-week trial set next year for suspect in Edmonton attack, officer stabbing

EDMONTON – A jury trial has been scheduled next year for a man accused of trying to kill an Edmonton police officer and running down pedestrians.

Abdulahi Hasan Sharif faces 12 charges related to the attack last year.

Sharif appeared via video link in Court of Queen’s Bench to get a new lawyer and set the eight-week trial date.

Court heard the trial will run from Oct. 15 to Dec. 6, 2019.

Police have said an officer was struck by a speeding car then stabbed outside an Edmonton Eskimos football game in September.

Hours later, a cube van sped through the downtown, injuring four pedestrians.
