Average Canadian family taxed 43 per cent of income: study

Do Canadians spend more on taxes or necessities?

According to the Fraser Institute, the average Canadian family sent just over $37,000 to the tax man last year.

That makes up about 43 per cent of their income, about seven points higher than was spent on housing, food and clothing combined.

It’s also up significantly since 1961 when the average family spent about a third of its income on taxes.
